(ENGLISH FOLLOWS)

BACKGROUND

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and human-made disasters, and to people excluded from healthcare, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation, in more than 65 countries around the world.

MSF is in the process of producing a documentary pertaining to the lack of access to emergency obstetric care for the poorest Haitian women in Port-au-Prince.

The documentary will give an inside look into the lives of dozens of young pregnant women living in shantytowns in the Haitian capital. Discussion groups have been filmed wherein these women express themselves openly in Creole. A French version and an English version (subtitled) will be made in order to reach the Canadian population. In order to do this, we are searching for a translator living in Toronto (ideally) or Montreal who has excellent familiarity with and knowledge of the subtleties of Haitian Creole. All of the video sequences will be provided and will need to be translated in an integrated fashion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Integrated translation of Creole audio recordings into French and/or English

EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

• Excellent knowledge of Creole and of French or English • Precision and attention to detail are essential • Ability to work under a minimum of supervision • Experience in translation from Creole to French or Creole to English
