Under any normal circumstance I would avoid this topic all together and go on living my life and keeping myself healthy in all of the ways I have researched throughout the years without sharing my secrets…but…I am under deadline stress, so I am going to choose to write about a topic that is personal, frank and honest.
A few years back, I had a Cancerous Sarcoma (cancer of the connective tissues) growing in between the tendons, bones, and liaments of my left wrist. I’m a young energetic active woman. No KFC, or Super Sizing here. I take vitamins and buy organics as often as possible…I even try to keep my heart clear of negative emotions for the metaphysical folks out there that believe in the mind body connection. None of that mattered. I had this fatty looking bump that just appeared one day while I was talking on the phone. It was just one of those odd sort of moments when you think, “I don’t remember seeing this...what is it?” I found myself not too overly concerned and often prodding and touching it while wondering when I would get it checked out. Underneath the skin while I bent my wrist in all directions doing yoga, another story was taking place. Somehow the cells in my body in this particular location got out of whack and started re-writing their purpose. A tumor had formed and it needed a blood supply, so it grew its very own vein to feed it. Like a cocoon. Alien-ness, I thought. I stared at it and took a poll with everyone I saw and I thought, “it doesn’t hurt, so I’ll get it checked out later.”
By the time I did get my MRI reviewed by the experts at Harvard and top cancer specialists at UCLA and Cedars…I was already on my way to surgery followed by another surgery to get more margins out of the wrist, followed by radiation on that area followed by a weakened immune system and then summer and fall had passed and I blinked my eyes a few times before I realized it was all over. I was in the clear…only later to really understand that Sarcomas are a very deadly kind of cancer.
So let me express the importance of a few things I have learned about the body while doing a ton of research and studying my family DNA (my mother passed from Breast Cancer in her early life). Some bodies are more acid than others. Mine is one of them. I know this because I have recently also been diagnosed with a chronic illness called IC (Interstitial cystitis is a condition that results in recurring discomfort or pain in the bladder and the surrounding pelvic region), which confirms this already instinctive discovery that acidic wreaks havoc in the body. The proof is the drug companies that just developed a treatment for the symptoms of IC are admitting and suggesting that one way to deal with this particular health issue (in addition to their prescribed medicine) is through a non-acidic diet. They pass out the food list with their drug brochures. No coffee, no alcohol, no fried, no sugar, no nothing. I won’t go into the topic of IC now, but there is information available online for research. It is a managable health issue.
The truth is, through all of this, I am completely convinced that a chemically balanced body will function at an optimal level and do what it is designed to do, and an acidic body is prone to disease and can get all out of whack and start making its own rules. You might be surprised to know that even the bottled water we drink is acidic. Do a little test at home with bottled water and the PH strips from your local health food store. Then put a little baking soda in the water. Stir it and let it sit for a moment…it becomes alkaline…and you can see a difference. That’s what you want in your body.
Another great way to keep your body balanced is to take the “Green Super Foods”. Yes it can taste a little grainy, but if I can get my 79 year old Aunt to stir it up with some Apple juice, plug her nose, and swallow as fast as possible…then I am certain that anyone can. Whether this is the first time you have heard of such a thing, or if you have your disbeliefs concerning the Acidic Disease Connection…just be aware and know that you can do something to create a balanced healthy cellular environment inside…where it counts.
If you have any questions about it…let me know.
