Hello everyone, After spending two months deep in the mountains of California's Central coast I and the majority of monks at the Tassajara Monastery have been evacuated due to the recent fires. TASSAJARA, CALIF. -- In this remote Zen enclave on Big Sur's forested backside, wildfires lurk on three sides. As flames edge closer and ash falls from a crimson sky, the Buddhist monks are readying for a final stand.

Those are great ideas to save money (and reduce air pollution, it isnâ€™t quite clear which). Here a few ideas he didnâ€™t mention.

- Walk or ride a bike or carpool or take a bus.

- Eat less meat (cows consume mostly corn, which can be used more efficiently for food or ethanol.)

- Buy used stuff. Each used thing you buy saves all the energy that would have gone into making a new thing. Used clothes, books, furniture, appliances all save energy.

- Buy less stuff.

- Use a manual lawn mower, with the eggbeater blades, rather than a gas...

When I first saw this article I thought it was a joke until I watched the BBC video linked to it. This car costs about three grand, goes 200 km on a single tank of compressed air.
