China's government must tighten its policies on buying illegally logged timber to set a good example for Chinese companies that largely use wood from unsustainable sources, a government forestry official said Wednesday.

Only 0.3 percent of Chinese forests, or about 1.48 million acres, are certified as sustainable according to international standards, said Lu Wenming, chief of international cooperation at the Chinese Academy of Forestry. Jerry, I apologize for taking so long to respond. I had missed your comment. I think that the projections for grid parity also rely in grid inter-tied solar systems. That means they draw from the grid at night and produce for it during the day. The net effect might be zero and there is no need for batteries. The issue is different is regions of the world without an existing grid. Perhaps the developments in EV transportation will dovetail with battery technology that help make solar truly reach grid parity everywhere. Some think we are only a few years away from that possibility.

Great! A toilet hack!

My wife and I don’t flush after every use. It’s pretty obvious when the toilet actually NEEDS to be flushed, and then this tip comes in handy, especially if you live in an apartment and have an old, wasteful toilet you can’t replace.

Those toilets with the half flush option were all over Australia when I was there, and I have never seen one in Canada.

Why the heck aren’t toilets just designed with this kink in place? You do see some modern toilets with the ‘half-flush’ option, but surely all modern toilets shoulds be designed to work at the most effective standard.

What is the actual policy on flushing: ‘if it’s yellow let it mellow’ – is this best? Is it best to avoid flushing even in other people’s homes? Obviously it’s not so bad for us guys…

Great hack! here is something that I found long time ago.

The Aqus system collects the water from a bathroom sink and filters and disinfects it before it gets re-used as flush water for an adjacent toilet. It saves between 10 and 20 gallons of fresh water per day for two person bathrooms with normal activities. This represents between 3,650 and 7,300 gallons of fresh water saved per year.
